What this tool measures, and what it does not.
It does not estimate traffic.
DistroFit does not estimate your traffic, your rankings, your conversion rate or your competitors' numbers. Every free tool that claims to is guessing from a panel that does not include you. Rather than give you a confident wrong number, this tool only reports things that can be read directly from your public site and computed from figures you typed in yourself.
What it reads
The crawler fetches your homepage, /pricing, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt, and checks whether a fixed list of routes exists: blog, docs, changelog, API, integrations, apps, marketplace, partners, affiliate, careers and jobs. From those it derives structural signals: repeating URL shapes in the sitemap, an email capture form outside the login flow, community links, marketplace listings, ad pixels, structured data, Open Graph tags, the AI crawler policy in robots.txt, and a rough read of the pricing model from the pricing page copy.
It respects your robots.txt for its own fetching. It identifies itself as DistroFitBot/1.0 (+https://www.distrofit.com/about). It makes at most 25 requests within 15 seconds, waits no more than 5 seconds for any one of them, follows at most 3 redirects, reads at most 2 MB per response, and only fetches public http and https addresses. It does not run a browser, so pages that only exist after JavaScript runs may read as missing.
When a check fails, whether from a timeout, a block, or a robots rule, the report says could not check. It never records an absence it did not observe.
What it computes
Three numbers from your inputs. Customers needed is your target divided by twelve times your monthly price, rounded up. The monthly treadmill is customers needed times your churn rate, the gross adds you need every month to stand still. The CAC ceiling is your monthly price times a 6-month payback, the most you can spend to acquire one customer. Currency is a label only. Nothing is converted.
Nineteen channels are each run through three gates: arithmetic, structure and capacity. The channel list and the reasoning come from Weinberg and Mares' Traction, with the structural tests informed by the public writing of the people named on each channel page.
The assumptions
Paid channels are closed when your CAC ceiling falls under an assumed minimum cost per acquisition. These floors are assumptions, not published benchmarks, and the report says so wherever one closes a channel. They are, in the currency you entered:
- Search ads
- 80
- Social and display ads
- 60
- Affiliate commission
- 100
- A small offline event
- 150
- Offline advertising
- 800
- Trade show stand and travel
- 1,500
- Human selling, annual contract
- 1,200
If your experience of a channel differs, the report tells you exactly which number to disagree with.
What it stores
One record per run: the URL, your inputs, the detected signals and the time. Reports live at an unlisted random address, are marked not to be indexed, and can be deleted from their footer. That deletes the record. Price and revenue target are personal. They are kept so that future aggregate benchmarks can exist, and they are never shown anywhere except in your own report. There are no accounts and no cookies. Runs are limited to 5 per hour per network address.
